In addition to receiving online banking access codes by phone, text, or email, members have the option to utilize authenticator apps such as Google Authenticator and Microsoft Authenticator. These enhance security by creating Time-based One-time Passwords (TOTP) that are both unique to the current time and to the specific user device. They are not dependent on specific countries, so members outside the US will be able to utilize this security step.
A prompt to enroll will appear during log in to NEFCUOnline. Enrollment is not required. To activate at a later date, go to My Settings and click “By authenticator” that is listed as a new security option. Once enabled and saved, scan the QR code or enter the code into the authenticator app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. That’s it! From then on, any logins from an unrecognized device can be verified with the authenticator app.
