Advance Child Tax Credit Payments for 2021 will begin arriving on July 15, 2021. The IRS will pay half the total child credit amount in advance, while the second half is to be claimed when you file your 2021 income tax return. These changes apply to tax year 2021 only.
Consider this an advance on half of your 2021 Child Tax Credit that would be claimed on your tax return in the 2022 tax season. Based on your 2020 or 2019 tax return, these monthly payments will start in July and continue through December 2021. If you filed your 2020 tax return and your account information for direct deposit is correct, you do not need to take any action to receive these payments. For NEFCU to process these deposits, it is imperative that your account information is valid with the IRS. Many exceptions were made during the stimulus and tax refunds of 2020 to post deposits, however, due to the volume of monthly deposits anticipated, these transactions will not be processed if account numbers are incorrect. The IRS will deposit funds based on direct deposit information listed on your 2020 tax return. If your direct deposit is rejected, a check will be mailed from the IRS.
